Thermal Imaging

Thermal imaging refers to the use of cameras that utilize infrared radiation to detect the presence of temperature differences in building materials without visible illumination.  All objects emit infrared radiation, which increases with temperature.  Therefore, with thermal imaging, one can see small thermal differences and cooler objects will standout against warmer backgrounds, and vise versa.

Through the use of a forward looking infrared radiation (FLIR) camera, EES can detect small temperature differences in building materials.  This allows for the quick determination of water infiltration locations and thermal difference of air leakage within a building envelope, such as the effectiveness of the insulation or lack thereof, without the use of destructive testing.
